My journey into Photography, Horology, and Audiophilia

The Cube Audio F8 Magus (with DIY bass reflex cabinet)

July 21, 2023

The F8 Magus drivers arrived at my dealer today and right after pickup, took me another few hours to screw them on to the DIY bass reflex cabinet I built.

Each speaker driver is wrapped in white cloth and came with accessories for mounting.

I was expecting a pair of banana plugs, alas there was none.

I attached my own banana plugs connected to the IXOS 6006 Gamma Geometry speaker wires repurposed as internal wiring.

Finally, I'm done mounting them and it's time to have a listen!

Initial impressions

To be honest, my expectations for Cube Audio drivers have been met from the previous F10 Neo audition so owning one is the final nail in the coffin. Nevertheless, being able to confirm the total package, i.e., drivers and enclosure, is the order of the day.

Out from the shelf came Simply Eva, the 2LP 45 rpm re-issue. Listening to side A reinforces the strength of the Cube Audio when it comes to vocal reproduction.

Next on playback is String Band Featuring Isao Suzuki, Flying Disk label that has Nica's Dream in side A. Again, reaffirmation of the dynamics the drivers are capable of.

More "side A-only" playback includes Solitude Standing, Suzanne Vega; Aja, Steely Dan; and finally Dark Passion Play, Nightwish.
